January 2023 SL Chamber minutes

Present Carol Ferguson, Mona Stafford, Brad Sondahl, Debby Carpenter , Jeneva Stubbs, Kristy McEvoy, Colin Conway, Caitlyn from SLPD, Althea Sondahl

Called to order 8 am

Treasurer’s report Dec. paid: Ziply Fiber 49.03 Aseptic 85 (final until spring) Deposits: $2465 membership also includes $2000 from sale of Big Back In race equipment $1680 more in memberships 5745.39 balance Note: had to pay $900 shipping to send the race equipment NITA 548.79 remaining balance to pay

Carol Ferguson: Library is in a lull, starting back up Jan. 9

Caitlyn for SL Police Department: holidays and heroes was a big hit, highest donation ever. Currently they are taking a break from doing events.

Debbie Carpenter (SL Fire Chief): Busy time with attending local events. There will be a new fire engine coming in the next months. The old engine will be demoted to backup, with the old backup to be sold…

Kristy McEvoy First Interstate Band. The bank donated to Holidays and Heroes, also the senior center, and Cup of Grace.

Dan Fuller Pastor at SL Presbyterian. They are joining the Chamber to get more connected to the community. The have 16 members currently. Only two live in Spirit Lake. Brad pointed out their service to the community hosting AA and NA and other self help groups.

Brad for Sondahl Pottery The numbers from last year were only down 4 % from the record sales of 2021…

Mona Stafford looking for volunteers at the community center, it can be a just a few hours per week. Also the Priest River Ministry building is being sold, looking for new place. They provided about 900 kid lunches, free clothing, diapers, cleaning supplies and invisible needed help in the community.

Jeneva Stubbs Spirit Events committee: Doing Chili cookoff Jan. 28 at noon, outhouses at 11. Contact Parks and Rec to enter. The Chamber has an outhouse for the race.

Colin Conway: Sedylmayers had very successful holidays, sushi pairing will be the next special meal some tickets still available: Jan. 11 5:30 reservation only. Info on Facebook and website.

Althea Sondahl for Historical Society: Members did caroling around Christmas. There is a new motto: preserving our past to protect our future. They also gave out Christmas swags to people helped with preserving buildings, or contributing to the Historical Society. Sondahl Pottery sells local donated crafts to support HS. Planning to have an event at the museum soon about traditional winters in Spirit Lake, like ice-cutting…

Cardboard Boat Regatta: Decided to go ahead again, but discussed trying to plan for no rain, set the date for Aug. 5, and to promote the event on 4th of July.

Jeneva talked about Fall festival idea, including Trunk or Treat, pie contest, more of an all day event.
